In the winter of 1819, three Owyhee Explorers (Natives of the Sandwich Islands aka: Hawaii) ventured into the mountains to the south of Boise in the Idaho Territory. They were never seen or heard from again. From then on the mountain range was referred to as the Owyhees in remembrance of the three explorers far from home that set out to explore a mountain range that stands alone above the surrounding desert.
The Owyhee Top quilt is dedicated to the same spirit, exploring the possibilities that lay just beyond the next new ridge.
