“Meet the Maker”
Hi, I’m Paul Gibson, the guy behind the sewing machine at Arrowhead Equipment.
I started Arrowhead back in 2009 because I couldn’t find the kind of hammock gear I wanted—lightweight, reliable, and ready to ship before my next trip. So I started making it myself. One product led to another, and before long, I was sewing gear for friends, fellow hikers, and eventually customers all over the country. What began as a hobby in the garage has grown into a full-time small business here in Idaho. Every piece of gear that ships from Arrowhead Equipment is still designed, tested, and built right here—by me, my family and my friends. I'm a hammock camper, Stand Up Paddler, hiker, Fisherman and gear nerd at heart, and I still use the same underquilts, tarps, and suspension systems we ship out every day. We’re proud to be one of the first cottage gear shops to offer Whoopie Sling suspensions, and even prouder that after more than 15 years, we’re still shipping fast and making gear that helps folks get out and enjoy the backcountry. If you ever have questions or need help choosing gear, don’t hesitate to reach out—there’s a real person behind this shop, and I’d be glad to help. — Paul Have a question? Want to talk gear setups? I'm just an email away—shoot me a message anytime and I’ll help you get dialed in for your next trip. |
- Q: Favorite piece of gear to make?
A: I really enjoy the making the Pocket Drop, its a fun and unique bit of gear to sew. And splicing Whoopie Slings. Still love making them, even after all these years. I can sit and splice slings for hours.
- Q: What trip inspired you to start making your own gear?
A: An empty wallet. I really wanted to do more hammock camping but with a family and tight budget I needed to find a way to make most of the gear I needed. At the time it was born out of needing items that not many companies were making and finding affordable options. - Q: What’s always in your pack (besides AHE gear)?
A: A good hat (Shelta Land Hawk currently), a fishing pole (usually Tenkara style), Tailwind Endurance Hydration drink mix (Dauwaltermelon falvor)
